A win over Chelsea on Sunday will lift Liverpool within touching distance of the Premier League title, a loss will all but hand Manchester City the advantage.
City are no doubt intent of keeping hold of their league crown, whereas Liverpool are hoping to win the coveted trophy for the first time in a very long while.
With some of the most talented players in the division, the Reds have every chance of realising the dream of every Liverpool fan in the country, but then again, City also have their fair share of quality players.
It is obvious that Pep Guardiola has a great squad at his disposal – that is an absolute given. However, most of the Liverpool fans will not be happy in the slightest that club legend Robbie Fowler has given their rivals the best possible compliment they can receive.
“I think Liverpool are a brilliant team, we all know that. But winning the Premier League is tough. And it’s a little bit tougher because we see Manchester City with the greatest squad in the history of the Premier League,” he said, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News.
There is no denying the level of talent City have in their ranks, but at such a crucial stage of the season where things could not be closer between the two clubs, Fowler should not be making gushing remarks about the team who are the only thing standing in the way of his former club winning the title.
Put it this way, most of the Liverpool fans will surely fume at these remarks. City have good players, but are they really the best we have seen in the whole of the league’s history?
Heaping praise on Liverpool’s biggest rivals will never go down too well with the club’s faithful, especially with such a lot at stake right now.
