When Xherdan Shaqiri signed for Liverpool last summer, general consensus seemed to be that it he was something of a bargain for the Reds.

The 27-year-old jumped ship when Stoke City were relegated to the Championship last season, and it was expected that a player of his obvious quality, with 80 caps for his country, would provide some much needed strength in depth to Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

At first it seemed as if things were going to plan for the little Swiss at Anfield, and he quickly endeared himself with a flurry of goals, including a brace against Manchester United.

But things have fallen away a little in recent weeks, and it’s now getting to a point where Shaqiri must be worried about his future at the club.

He now hasn’t featured since the end of February, and if a report in the Liverpool Echo is to be believed, his manager views him as something of a high risk player, unable or unwilling to pull his weight in a defensive sense.

That’s a fairly damning indictment of the £80,000-a-week star [Spotrac], and it certainly doesn’t bode well for his long term aspirations at the club.

Sure, he made a decent impact at the start of the season, but things have gotten serious Jurgen Klopp has consistently chosen to overlook him.

With the Reds seemingly on an upwards trajectory that should seem them challenging for titles on multiple fronts for the foreseeable future, that can’t be a good thing for the playmaker, who must be concerned that his days may be numbered on Merseyside.
