Chris Sutton has hailed on-loan Liverpool winger Ryan Kent for his performance in the Old Firm on Sunday afternoon, and his comments show that the youngster is ready for a crack at the Premier League.

The 22-year-old was the standout performer for Rangers in their 2-1 defeat to Celtic, scoring their goal and looking lively throughout. He did mar his outing with an ugly incident in which he punched Scott Brown in the face.

Despite that, Sutton still saw fit to single him out for praise during his appraisal of the match.

Taking to Twitter after the final whistle, he said: “Brilliant game… Kent the outstanding player… Rangers very good second half… ultimately they came up short in the lions den…”

The winger may have been on the losing side, and he may have lost his cool at the end of proceedings, but after another impressive display in the most pressurised of environments, Liverpool must realise that he is capable enough, and now experience enough to perform in the Premier League.

The standard of the English top flight may be higher, but Kent has been exemplary so far this season for the Gers, and there can’t be an atmosphere as hostile or nerve-wracking as that of an Old Firm.

Kent has taken it all in his stride, and with the pace and trickery he provides, plus the mental strength he clearly has, there’s no reason why Jurgen Klopp wouldn’t take a gamble on him for the Reds’ first team when he returns form his time north of the border.
