Former Liverpool goalkeeper and self proclaimed ‘no.1 fan’ Pepe Reina believes that the Reds are back where they belong after an impressive season in both the Premier League and Champions League.

The 37-year old was a big part of the Liverpool side under Rafa Benitez which previously stormed Europe, and believes that the same could be happening again as the Reds compete for the Champions League.

Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, Reina said: “It’s good for football itself. That’s where Liverpool belongs and hopefully it will be like that for many years to come.

“They have done a fantastic job from the top of the club to the last player. They seem hungry to me and that’s important in football – to become even better and better.

“It’s home. I was there eight years – nine with the season I was on loan with Napoli. I consider Liverpool my home and it will always be like that.

“It’s what they say; once a Red, always a Red.”

OPINION

It’s always nice when a former player comes back and says positive things about a club they were once a part of, especially when said player is already loved by fans of the club and spent nine years with them. Reina has openly said that he watches Liverpool whenever he can, and knows better than anyone what it takes for a club like Liverpool to succeed in Europe. Arguably, Liverpool are finally on their way to becoming their old selves on the European stage in the Champions League, and this could potentially be the start of a seriously entertaining time for Liverpool fans, especially with the Champions League final against Tottenham Hotspur right around the corner. Much like the 37-year old said, this Reds side seem hungry, and are beginning to look more and more like a side which will bring home silverware in England and the rest of Europe. Jurgen Klopp has revolutionised this Liverpool side since his arrival, and will no doubt continue to do so in years to come.
