Adam Lallana fears that his football career is in jeopardy and that he needs to leave Liverpool in order to get it back on track, according to The Express.

The newspaper claim that the 31-year-old has told friends that he would welcome a move back to Southampton, as he fears that he has no real future at Anfield under Jurgen Klopp.

The Daily Express report that Saints are monitoring Lallana’s situation ahead of the summer transfer window with the Reds expected to slap a £13million price tag on the midfielder’s head.

Injuries have halted the midfielder’s progression so far this term, and he has only made 16 first-team appearances, which only just beats the 13 that he recorded last season.

OPINION

Lallana, who earns £110,000-a-week (Source: Spotrac) may have to leave Liverpool in order to get his career back on track, but this would only be able to happen if he could stay fit, no matter what club he end up at ahead of next season. Although there is no doubting the 31-year old’s ability, his fitness has been a real issue over the last year especially, and this would no doubt come into question at any club in the Premier League. Southampton could be the perfect place to go for the midfielder to completely resurrect his career, and a move in the summer could definitely seem appealing for both parties, as Klopp begins to shake things up at Anfield ahead of next season. The Saints fans already have a liking for Lallana, after he graduated through their youth system before leaving for Liverpool in 2014, so they are aware of what he can offer when fully fit, which is always a bonus for a player.  Also the Saints know it’d would potentially be an easy deal to get done as the report above shows Lallana is open to an exit.
