Liverpool will surely be ensuring they are keeping an eye on the situation of Ajax winger Hakim Ziyech, after the Dutch club’s sporting director Marc Overmars suggested the Moroccan will be leaving the club this summer.

Ziyech has enjoyed an impressive season with Ajax, scoring 21 goals and providing a further 24 assists this campaign, which has seen him be an influential figure in the Dutch side winning the Eredivise title and also reaching the Champions League semi-final.

That form has led to interest in the Morocco international from a number of clubs, and it is thought that the 26-year-old has a release clause in his contract that could be triggered with a bid of around £25million.

Ajax sporting director Overmars has now suggested that the winger will be allowed to depart the club this summer with the club’s approval.

“He leaves when a top club comes. He is in focus because of his achievements in the Champions League,” Overmars said as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.

“Many big clubs are buzzing around him. We promised Hakim (that we would) agree to a good transfer.”

Overmars’ admission could be good news for Liverpool if Jurgen Klopp’s side are seriously considering making a summer for Ziyech.

It in no surprise to see the 26-year-old attracting the attention of Liverpool according to The Mirror, with the Morocco international being such an impressive performer for Ajax, picking up the club’s Player of the Year award, which is an even bigger achievement considering the Dutch club have had a host of standout performers throughout this season.

However, with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah already in Klopp’s squad the competition would be fierce for one of the wide positions if they sign Ziyech, which could signal a different position for one of the players, with Salah already having being used as a striker under the German a few times.

Liverpool though are not expected to be making a host of new and expensive signings this summer, but if an opportunity presents itself to sign a player of Ziyech’s quality then the Reds would surely be wise to take it.
