Danny Murphy has said his piece regarding Liverpool ahead of next season and claims that the Reds need to show ‘a bit more of the same’ in their quest for Premier League glory.

Liverpool fell just short of the title on the final day of the season, despite a convincing 2-0 home victory over Wolves.

Murphy believes that Liverpool must carry their form from this season into the next campaign if they want to be in with a shot at the Premier League title next year, insisting that whatever happens in the Champions League means nothing for their top flight preparations.

“I think for Liverpool, a bit more of the same with a bit of tweaking, no need for drastic measures.” said Murphy to talkSPORT. (Monday 13th May 10:40)

“No matter what happens in the Champions League final, I don’t see that being relevant in terms of recruitment. The squad has just got to get a bit stronger.”

OPINION

The former Liverpool midfielders seems to have hit the nail on the head with his opinions on Liverpool ahead of next season, but he is also correct regarding recruitment at the club. There aren’t too many changes which need to made with regards to the players who are in the starting eleven, but there could be a few additions brought in to help with squad depth. That would possibly be the main thing that Manchester City had over the Reds this season, the fact that they have high quality options both on the field and on the bench. The result of  the Champions League final probably won’t have too much of an effect on recruitment should Liverpool fail to win the tie, however it could have a more positive impact should the Reds bring European glory back to Anfield. There are a number of players needed to be brought in ahead of next season to bolster the squad depth at the club, however the main figureheads of the side are now in place, and will no doubt be staying in and around the Liverpool starting eleven for years to come.
