Andy Robertson stayed inside St. James’ Park conducting interviews and spending time with fans until 11pm on Saturday night, according to Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie.

The Scottish defender starred in the Reds’ 3-2 win over Newcastle United, a result that ensures their title bid will go down to the last day.

And her was happy to stick around and fulfil his media duties long after the final whistle too.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Downie said: “Andy Robertson is a class act.

“11pm last night, and long after the rest of his teammates had escaped to the sanctuary of the team bus, he’s inside St James’ Park, conducting endless interviews and spending time with Liverpool fans.

“The boy has never changed.”

OPINION

This is quality from Robertson. The defender has made it to the Premier League the hard way, coming through the lower reaches of both the Scottish and English games, and it is good to see that he is still as humble and grateful as ever. You have to wonder whether his unorthodox route to the top of the game has given him a greater appreciation of the opportunity that he has been presented with. The rhetoric that footballers are ungrateful or spoiled is slowly being dispelled by some brilliantly grounded, articulate young men, but surely Robertson’s slog to glory must give him an extra little bit of grace. To all intents and purposes, unlike some of his teammates who have been destined for the big time since adolescence, Robertson’s ascension was very much a case of touch and go. It is understandable, therefore, that he is happy to milk every second of the experience and all the trappings, no matter how dull or time-consuming, that go along with it.
