Ian Wright has taken to social media to respond to a tweet which was directed at Liverpool regarding their failure to win the Premier League title at the hands of Manchester City.

The tweet, which was sent by FootballJOE included video footage showing Jurgen Klopp’s face, which had been edited onto a man dropping a container filled with food onto the floor, captioned: “Manchester City are 3-1 up and have one hand on the trophy.”

The container had the Premier League logo on the side of it, suggesting in one way or another that Klopp had effectively dropped the title, leaving Manchester City to pick up the pieces.

Ian Wright didn’t take to the seemingly lighthearted tweet, replying: “Ridiculous tweet” from his personal Twitter account.

OPINION

Arguably, to suggest that Liverpool have dropped the title in any way could be seen as a ridiculous statement, especially in the eyes of a Liverpool fan. To finish a Premier League season on 97 points and still come second is unbelievably unlucky, especially considering that Klopp’s men only lost one game all season, and that defeat came at the hands of the eventual champions Manchester City. Wright certainly has a right to feel angry at this tweet, and although it is quite clearly just a lighthearted joke, it does seem incredibly disrespectful to suggest that Klopp may have been at fault for Liverpool missing out on the title, after what can only be described as an impressive but hopelessly unlucky Premier League campaign for the Reds. There will always be people suggesting negative things about teams, even in the most positive of circumstances, but in this case the tweet didn’t get a great response from a certain footballing great who goes by the name of Ian Wright.
