Jurgen Klopp could be set to use Virgil Van Dijk to tempt Ajax superstar Matthijs de Ligt into making the switch to Liverpool in the summer – and the German boss must do all he can to make it happen.
The 19-year old has been linked with a summer move to the Camp Nou, as Barcelona seem to have shown lots of interest in the youngster.
However, according to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona now fear that they could miss out on de Ligt, as a move to Anfield would allow the central defender to play alongside his international teammate in Van Dijk.
This would be an unbelievable move for Liverpool should it come to fruition, and could potentially give Liverpool that extra edge in their ongoing quest for a Premier League title.
Klopp should certainly pull out all the stops to try and bring de Ligt to Merseyside, especially with new reports surfacing that Barcelona are beginning to have their doubts on where the 19-year old will eventually end up.
The thought of having a defensive partnership of Van Dijk and de Ligt would surely make the mouths of the Liverpool faithful water, and although Joel Matip has been impressive this past season, it would be hard for Reds’ fans to contain their excitement if this up and coming young sensation arrived at Anfield.
The Ajax defender is still so young in terms of his footballing career, and has already captained his boyhood side to a Champions League semi-final, the youngest player to do so in the competition.
The youngster could be the key to success next season for the Reds, and with Van Dijk already in the squad, he should definitely be used to tempt the 19-year old into pledging his future to Liverpool.
If Klopp was able to pull this off, it could potentially be one of the signings of the season next year.
