Liverpool are in talks with Werder Bremen over goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka, according to Turkish outlet Fotospor.

The 6’4″ colossus [Transfermarkt] played 39 times this season for the German outfit, but is understood to be a potential target for the Reds this summer.

The report states, however, that Bremen are keen for Loris Karius to be part of any deal for the 27-year-old in a player plus can arrangement.

Pavlenka has 10 caps for the Czech national side.

OPINION

This would be a good deal for Liverpool. Karius is surplus to requirements at Anfield, and it looks increasingly likely that Simon Mignolet could be on his way out of the club this summer. That would leave Jurgen Klopp with a void to fill in his squad, and he could do a lot worse than a player like Pavlenka to act as cover for Alisson Becker. The lanky Czech is an impressive player, and once who has played an awful lot of football for Bremen this year. Would he be happy to play second fiddle? Perhaps if the club is as big as Liverpool. At 27, he is experienced but still has plenty left in the tank, and if the Reds can bring him in, and move on Karius at the same time, this could be a real coup for them. Liverpool need another stopper, and the big man could be the ace for the job.
