OPINION
Money. Makes the world go round, or so they say. And nowhere is that more true than in professional football. The summer used to be a period of down time for fans and players, a chance to catch your breath and lick your wounds before it all kicks off again, literally and figuratively, in August. Now, however, with transfer fees at an all-time high and with one club players going the way of the dinosaurs, the summer is arguably just as busy as the season itself, albeit in a different sort of way. That being said, there is nothing worse than watching teams around you spend big when your club are keeping the pursestrings firmly tied. It’s like breaking your leg on the first day of the summer holidays as a kid. Watching everybody else running around, having fun, signing players you’ve never even heard of while you have to be content with the faint hope of a deadline day loan swoop. Thankfully for Liverpool fans, it doesn’t look as if they will have to endure any such barren spell this window. As reported by reliable journalist David O’Connell, owner John Henry has promised on Sky Sports that he will invest this summer so that his club can make another bid for the title next year. Happy days for the Kop indeed.
