Liverpool sent scouts to watch Lyon attacking duo Bertrand Traore and Maxwel Cornet in May, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claims that the Reds watched the pair in the French side’s games against Marseille and Lille earlier this month, with Cornet scoring twice in the Marseille clash.

The two players have combined for 21 goals in all competitions this season, with Traore bagging 11 and Cornet netting 10 times. At 23 and 22 years of age respectively, they are both good ages, too.

However, the Mail’s report only states that they were scouted and doesn’t mention that any summer move is forthcoming.

OPINION

It’s interesting that Liverpool took the time to take a look at these two players, although they probably scout hundreds of potential recruits over the course of a season. However, Traore and Cornet would both appear to be excellent signings if the Reds do decide to make a move for them. Traore has come on leaps and bounds since being one of many young players brought to Chelsea and then dispatched on numerous loan spells. He has found a home at Lyon and is finally starting to fulfil his potential. As for Cornet, he is a hugely exciting youngster. He showed his skills earlier this campaign when he scored three times in two Champions League games against Manchester City. He’s a versatile, speedy attacker who would be a fine addition to the Liverpool attack. With Daniel Sturridge set to leave and Xherdan Shaqiri failing to spark into life, it’s not inconceivable that at least one of these two could end up at Anfield this summer.
