Liverpool chairman Tom Werner has given a hint on manager Jurgen Klopp’s future at the club, suggesting that he believes the German is committed to the Reds.

Klopp had been touted as a possible target for Juventus, as reported by Italian journalist Tancredo Palmeri, but Werner seemingly hinted that the boss would stay at Anfield for a while longer.

Speaking to the Echo, he said: “We don’t really want to discuss his situation publicly, especially so close to the final.

“But I think you know that we think the world of him. We have already extended his contract once.

“All I can say is that it’s obviously important that he stays for as long as he likes. We believe that he’s committed to Liverpool.”

OPINION

This is fairly non-committal from Werner, as you would expect in the build up to the biggest game of his side’s season, but there’s enough here to read between the lines. The Klopp to Juve rumours always felt pretty weak anyway, but there is absolutely no reason to believe now that he will be going anywhere this summer. You can tell that he loves the club, and it’s fairly clear that he is completely adored by the Kop as well. If he can deliver a Champions League on Saturday, after the stunning season he has had, then he will write his name into the mythology of this great club. Why would he go anywhere after that? Klopp won’t be around forever, but it’s hard to see him leaving anytime soon either. Werner knows he has a special manager at the helm, and he won’t do anything to blow that anytime soon.
