Liverpool supporters will be in agreement with a suggestion that the Reds should make a summer move for Wolves striker Diogo Jota.

The Express newspaper have suggested that a move for Jota would be a good option for Jurgen Klopp, who could be on the look out for another striker to provide extra quality and depth to his forward options.

Jota has been a key player for Wolves this season as Nuno Espirito Santo’s side managed to secure a seventh place Premier League finish in their first season back in the top flight, meaning the club have qualified for the Europa League next season.

The Portuguese arrived at Wolves on an initial loan deal from Atletico Madrid at the start of last season, and his move was made a permanent one in January 2018 after his impressive form in the opening half of Nuno’s sides Championship campaign last term.

Jota was an instrumental figure in helping Wolves clinch the Championship title last season, and he has now proven his ability to adapt to the Premier League, averaging 0.8 key passes and 1.7 successful dribbles per 90 minutes [whoscored.com] in the English top flight this season.

The 22-year-old struggled in the opening moths of the season, with Nuno preferring to play him as a wide forward in a 3-4-3 formation in the first half of the campaign, but a change to a 3-5-2 formation during the latter part of the season allowed Jota to demonstrate his ability, with the Portuguese linking up excellently with strike partner Raul Jimenez.

Liverpool could potentially benefit from adding a play like Jota with the ability to play across the forward line, as well as having the intelligence and technical ability needed to link up with other players in the forward areas of the pitch.

That would allow Jota to fit in seamlessly with Klopp’s attacking style of play with his forwards all needing to be flexible enough to move into different positions in the attacking third.

At the age of 22 Jota has plenty of time to develop under the German’s coaching if he makes the move to Anfield this summer, and the forward would be able to provide cover for the likes of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, with Firmino and Salah both suffering injury problems at times this season.
