Jermain Jenas believes that Roberto Firmino must start for Liverpool in their Champions League clash with Tottenham.

The former Spurs man has given his verdict ahead of the Champions League final, and believes that the 27-year old has to start over the likes of Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge regardless of whether they’re fitter.

The Brazilian was unavailable for selection in the Reds’ second-leg semi-final fixture with Barcelona through injury, but is likely to be fit and ready for the final should he be selected.

“In my eyes, they have to play Firmino.” said Jenas to BBC Radio 5 Live. (24th May 20:12)

“No matter how fit Origi or Sturridge is, they have to start Firmino.”

OPINION

Jenas has a point regarding Firmino, and no matter how well Origi did in the Champions League semi-final, Jurgen Klopp has to start Firmino. Although it could be argued, and probably will be argued by Liverpool fans around the country that Origi deserves a start after scoring a brace which effectively got the Reds into the final, Klopp must use his best quality attackers in the fixture, even it may upset people along the way. With a front three of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Firmino, Liverpool will be at their best, and surely be in with a better chance at beating Spurs in the final. It seems like Harry Kane could quite possibly be fit in time for the final, which gives Spurs a huge boost in their hopes of bringing the trophy back to North London, however the Reds have an attacking boost of their own with Firmino, and they must use it.
