Former Liverpool coach Michael Beale has made a comparison between Reds’ winger Harry Wilson and Arjen Robben.

The 22-year old has spent the latest season on loan at Derby County, scoring 18 goals and registering six assists in all competitions.

The former Reds’ coach believes that Wilson shares similar traits with the Netherlands veteran, and explained how the 22-year old would almost always score with his favoured left foot, even from a young age.

“He scores spectacular goals like the knuckleball free-kick at Man United this season which was incredible.” said Beale to the Daily Mail.

“He has that trademark like Arjen Robben when he comes in from the right and bends the ball in with his left foot,

“We used to celebrate every goal he got with his right foot or head as a major triumph as they were the things we worked on.”

OPINION

It’s clear to see that Wilson’s progression has been magnificent over the last few seasons, and after a couple of loan spells at different Championship clubs, he has now earned the right to be considered a top, top player, but this clearly didn’t just come to him without practice. The 22-year old does have some likeness to Robben, in the way he cuts in from the wing and has the ability to riffle the ball towards goal with such power using his left foot, and Beale himself will be hoping that Wilson can go on to have a career similar to the Dutch veteran. It’s a huge compliment on Wilson’s part to be likened to a player of Robben’s stature, but the comment it’s out of line, in fact many Liverpool fans will have been expressing their views on the player regarding first team opportunities, after his impressive season with Derby in the Championship. The question still remains whether the attacker will get any first team action for the Reds in the coming seasons, or whether he may end up seeking permanent first team action elsewhere.
