Georginio Wijnaldum has sent a message to Liverpool fans ahead of their Champions League final with Tottenham next Saturday.

The Reds will face Spurs in the final of the competition on the 1st June, and the 28-year old has sent a message to the Liverpool faithful ahead of the tie during a press conference from Melwood Training Ground.

The midfielder had a huge part to play in the semi-final, scoring a brace which helped the Reds’ in overturning a 3-0 deficit against Barcelona at Anfield, and he is likely to be involved once again in the final.

“The message to fans? Thank you for your support!” said Wijnaldum, transcribed by the Liverpool Echo.

“They make it possible to win the game at Anfield 4-0,

“To those who don’t have a ticket, I feel sorry. Everyone deserves to be there.”

OPINION

It’s clear to see that even the players are aware of the impact that the Liverpool fans have on the team, and Wijnaldum even went as far as saying that the Reds’ semi-final success was partly down to their support. Of course, every single Liverpool fan can’t be at the Champions League final in Madrid, but the travelling fans who do have a ticket will no doubt create an atmosphere which likens to Anfield as much as possible, and if the midfielder’s comment is anything to go by, the players will need the fans more than anything in the tie. Wijnaldum has scored five goals this season in all competition, two of which were in the Champions League, and proved to be two of the most important goals in the history of the club, should they go on to win the final and bring a European trophy back to Anfield. For the fans who are making their way to Madrid, there will be lots to look forward to, and they will have to be in fine voice for the players on June 1st.
