Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has given an update on his progress ahead of the Champions League final against Tottenham next Saturday.

The 25-year old has missed the vast majority of the Premier League season this year after suffering an injury to his cruciate and medial ligaments in the Champions League semi-final first leg with Roma last year.

In an interview with The Anfield Wrap, the midfielder assessed his recent return from injury and gave his view on the recent training camp in Marbella.

“It’s been probably about 13 months since you’ve seen me,” said Chamberlain.

“It’s nice to be back out there and involved, it feels like I’ve been back and around it for a while now,

“You don’t feel fully back until you’re playing games, so in a way I do feel like I’m just coming back,

“The training camp was good, it’s tough out there with the hot weather, it was good preparation going into this week now.”

OPINION

It remains unknown as to whether Oxlade-Chamberlain will feature in the final of the Champions League, however it’s a positive for Reds’ fans that he seems likely to be available for selection going into the fixture. It would be fitting for him to take part in the upcoming Champions League final, after missing last years final through an injury which he sustained in last years semi-final, however whether Jurgen Klopp is ready to take the risk of throwing his £120,000-per week midfielder (Source: Spotrac) straight back into the deep end in a European final is another question. The England international has only featured twice in the Premier League for the Reds this season, which is understandable after his injury, but this lack of match-fitness could possibly have a detrimental effect on his performance in the final, should he be involved. It seems unlikely that he will make an appearances in Klopp’s starting eleven on the big day, but whether he will feature at all or not is another question.
