Former England international Darren Bent has heaped praise on Liverpool right back Trent Alexander-Arnold for his recent form for club and country.

The 20-year-old enjoyed another tremendous season for the Reds, while his recent performance for the Three Lions in the Nations League against Switzerland was one his finest for his country.

Bent is a big fan: “I like him, yeah,” he told talkSPORT [13/06; 12:29]. “I think in this country, again, we’ve got some real talented right backs the moment, and to me it looks like he’s maybe overtaken Kyle Walker now.

“He plays with no fear, nothing seems to faze him. He’s played in big games, he’s played for England and he looks like he’s been playing for years.”

OPINION

There’s no doubt that Alexander-Arnold is the premier right back in English football and with the England national team. As Bent says, we’re blessed in this country at the moment with the number of quality right backs we have. Aside from Alexander-Arnold and Walker, there’s also Aaron Wan-Bissaka at Crystal Palace, Kieran Trippier at Tottenham Hotspur and even youngsters Jayden Bogle  at Derby County and Max Aarons at Norwich City. So there’s unbelievably stiff competition at right back for England moving forward, but Alexander-Arnold has certainly distinguished himself as the best of the above group. He is just something else, a phenomenal talent who has accomplished a ridiculous amount at just 20 years of age. He is a Champions League winner now, having been in back-to-back European Cup finals. That’s stunning to think about. So while Walker has been first choice for England for some time now, there’s no disputing the fact that Alexander-Arnold has moved ahead of him.
