Liverpool right back Nathaniel Clyne is likely to spend the final year of his contract out on loan before leaving on a free in the summer of 2020, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The newspaper claims that the England international, on a reported £70,000-per-week [Source: Spotrac], will be touted for a permanent exit this summer.

However, nothing yet has been heard from Premier League side Bournemouth, where the 28-year-old made 15 appearances on loan during the second half of this campaign.

With that said, the most likely solution at present is for the former Southampton man to head out on loan next season and leave when his current deal expires in a year’s time.

OPINION

This is something that is quite sad in a way. Clyne has seen untimely injuries and the emergence of Trent Alexander-Arnold derail what was once a very promising Liverpool career. He didn’t become a bad player overnight, and he is now fully fit again of course, but he’s simply stuck behind arguably the finest right back in world football – and someone who is eight years younger than him to boot. It would be strange if someone didn’t come in with a permanent offer for the Englishman this summer, but perhaps Liverpool will demand too much money. Sporting director Michael Edwards has been a fierce negotiator when selling players during his time at the club, so you can bet he will demand a big lump of cash for Clyne after his successful loan spell on the south coast. However, if a move doesn’t materialise then he will likely be shifted on loan before leaving for free next year. That would cost Liverpool some money, but nothing drastic.
