Tennis player and Liverpool fan Kyle Edmund raved about Reds midfielder James Milner by dubbing him an unbelievable professional.

The 24-year-old, who is ranked as Britain’s No.1 male tennis player, was asked which Liverpool player he was like and ended up comparing himself to Milner.

Edmund shared that he thought Milner was pretty straight forward and so good for the Reds as he just got on with his job.

The tennis player also added that people used to take the “micky” out of the 33-year-old for being too boring but suggested that was no longer the case.

“Maybe someone like James Milner — pretty straightforward, nothing fancy,” said Edmund, as quoted by the Daily Mail.

“Gets on with it. Doesn’t do all the tricks but so good for the team.

“People used to take the micky out of him for being too boring but, as he’s got older, his reputation has gone up. An unbelievable professional.”

OPINION

Edmund is spot-on about Milner as while the midfielder may not bust out the skill moves to get pulses racing, he is such a useful member of Jurgen Klopp’s side. The 33-year-old is a reliable presence and always churns out a good display to help the Reds achieve a positive victory. Milner featured 45 times for the Reds across all competitions in his 2018/19 season and racked up seven goals as well as seven assists in his outings. Five of those assists and five of those goals came during his 31 league outings and that’s impressive considering he was often deployed from the bench. Milner only started 50% of the Reds’ league games in his latest campaign (Source: Transfermarkt), so to have such a good return shows how much of an impact he can make on games. Milner isn’t just an asset going forward for Klopp’s side, but proves his worth when asked to help out the club’s defence. The 33-year-old made 43 tackles in his 2018/19 league campaign, winning 53% of them, and regularly put his body on the line as he notably blocked 13 shots (Source: Premier League).
