Phillipe Coutinho will not return to Liverpool this summer, according to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo.

The Brazilian left Anfield for £142 million last January, joining Barcelona.

But the 27-year-old has struggled for form in Spain, and has been linked with a possible exit this summer.

According to the report, PSG, Chelsea, and Manchester United are all interested in signing him, but a return to Merseyside is not an option, with sources close to player supposedly ruling it out.

OPINION

In fairness, it’s incredibly hard to imagine Coutinho coming back to Liverpool, especially so soon after he left the club. His move to Barcelona was very much pushed through on player power, and it’s hard to deduce whether he would be welcomed or shunned were he to come back to Merseyside. That being said, there’s a good argument that it wouldn’t be his choice to make in the first place. The Reds have invested the money they took from his sale superbly, bringing in Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker. Those two players have massively helped to solidify Jurgen Klopp’s men as a defensive unit, and they have been internal to the success that Liverpool have enjoyed over the past season. Going forward, the Reds arguably look more balanced without Coutinho in the side, and while it would be interesting to have a player of his quality thrown back into the mix, but it could well prove to be a case of spinning plates to keep all of those talents happy. Thankfully, it isn’t happening anyways.
