Liverpool signing Kalidou Koulibaly would be a “disaster” for the rest of the Premier League, according to Everton scout Carlo Jacomuzzi.

The talent spotter, who used to work for the 6’2″ [Transfermarkt] defender’s current club Napoli, has claimed that the Reds are one of only a handful of English sides who could afford him.

Speaking to Neapolitan radio station Radio Kiss Kiss, as translated by Daily Star, he said: “Napoli want €130m [£116m]? In England, there are four teams who can pay that amount.

“Liverpool? They’ve won so much [financially] from the Champions League, from the [prize] money from the federation and their sponsors that they can buy two Koulibalys.

“It would be a disaster for the others, having to find a way to go through that defence.”

OPINION

Koulibaly would be a remarkable signing for Liverpool. Virgil van Dijk has been immense for the Reds since signing from Southampton last January, but the spot alongside him at the heart of defence is still very much up for grabs. Joe Gomez has seemed like the natural option in there, but his injury issues in recent times have cast some doubt over his immediate suitability. Joel Matip did well when called upon last season, and Dejan Lovren is a World Cup finalist for a reason, but all things considered, a top level signing to compliment the big Dutchman would arguably make Liverpool look like the most imperious team in the division. It takes a lot for an Everton scout to make a statement like the one Jacomuzzi has here, but there are few people in England who know Koulibaly as well as he does, and if he says the Reds should make a move, perhaps they should make a move.
