Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is to run the rule over Harry Wilson over the summer as the club weigh up whether to let him go on loan or permanently, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The newspaper claim on their website that with the likes of Aston Villa, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leeds United all chasing the 22-year-old’s capture, Klopp will take the first part of the summer to judge his ability and potential among the first team before making a decision.

The 11-cap Wales international spent last season at Derby County on loan but the report states he will only be heading back to the Championship permanently, with the club only sanctioning a Premier League loan deal if he is to depart temporarily.

Opinion

Wilson dazzled in the second tier last season but he has found himself at something of a crossroads in his career. Both he and Liverpool need to decide whether he is going to forge a career at Anfield and how best to go about making sure he hits his full potential. A loan spell to get regular first team game time seems a given and heading out to another Premier League side will give him the chance to prove his worth as a top flight quality player. However, it could well be that Jurgen Klopp wants to see if he can act as backup to the likes of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, having stolen the spotlight in the attack during his time at Pride Park. Yes, he would be limited to minutes here and there but training with that sort of quality on a day to day basis, as well as having Klopp there to mould him into the player the German wants, might make up for his lack of action. There is a lot to be decided over Wilson and this summer could make or break where he ends up down the line.
