Liverpool have no interest in making a move for Sporting Lisbon playmaker Bruno Fernandes this summer, according to the Evening Standard.

The newspaper claims that it had been suggested that Reds youngster Rafael Camacho could have been used as a makeweight in any potential deal to bring the Portugal international to Anfield.

However, Jurgen Klopp is not looking to swoop for the 24-year-old at this moment in time, with Manchester United thought to be sniffing around the player.

Fernandes was involved in a stunning 50 goals this season, scoring 32 times and grabbing 18 assists.

OPINION

Well, this is a bit of a shame, although not unexpected news. We’ve all known for a while that Liverpool aren’t planning on spending big money this summer, and big money is exactly what it would take to bring Fernandes to the club. However, it’s a shame that they aren’t really considering him, because the Portuguese star would be a fabulous addition to Klopp’s team. Clearly he is lethal in front of goal, and he operates in a position on the pitch where the Reds aren’t overly blessed with creativity. Liverpool’s top goalscorer from midfield this season was James Milner with 7, with a fair few of those being penalties, next was Xherdan Shaqiri with 6 [Source: BBC Sport], someone who is far from a guaranteed starter at Anfield. So there is certainly a vacancy for a creative, goalscoring midfielder on Merseyside. Perhaps, though, Klopp believes that gap will be filled by Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain next term.
