Liverpool centre back Dejan Lovren is edging nearer to an Anfield exit and is now close to agreeing personal terms with Italian giants AC Milan, according to Football Insider.

The outlet claims that Marco Giampaolo’s side have yet to formally submit a bid for the Croatian international, but they have made it clear that they are interested in signing him.

Milan are thought to be willing to hand the 29-year-old a long term contract and assurances of regular football, something he no longer has on Merseyside.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is willing to green-light the former Southampton man’s sale, after five years at the club, if he is able to secure first team football elsewhere and his near-£30million asking price is met.

OPINION

This seems to be one of those deals where Klopp doesn’t necessarily want to sell the player but he is willing to do so if the player is able to go and get more first team football somewhere else. The German treats his players like humans rather than commodities and so if they can find a better situation for themselves then he is generally willing to allow them to fly the nest. That appears to be where we’re at with Lovren at the moment. It seems as if the Croatian is cognisant of the fact that he has plummeted down the centre back pecking order at Anfield and is ready to move on to another team if they can offer him first team football and a new long term contract. Milan are seemingly willing to do both those things, so it makes sense that he would be interested in making the switch to Serie A. Milan are still a historic club in Europe and as such would be very attractive to Lovren, so you can see why things seem to be trending towards him leaving.
