Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk reflected on his 2018/19 season and after doing so received a message on Instagram from Reds teammate Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The Reds centre-back took to social media to share he thought his latest campaign had been unbelievable and that him and his Liverpool teammates were even more hungry for success after winning the Champions League.

“I’ve had a few days to reflect now at the end of what’s been an unbelievable season,” wrote Van Dijk on Instagram.

“We achieved great things this season at Liverpool as a team and I feel proud to be part of such an incredible club with this group of players.

“To be European Champions is a dream come true!

“We are all now hungry for more success and will continue to give all we can to achieve that.

“I’m also excited about the future with the national team and we will look to build on the promising season we’ve just had, Thank you for all of your support over the last few months and I’ll see you after a break ready to go again ! ”

Van Dijk’s passionate post celebrating his season, saw Oxlade-Chamberlain send him a four-word message in order to heap praise on him.

“Man like big Virg!” wrote the English midfielder via his Instagram account.

OPINION

Oxlade-Chamberlain may have only used four words, but his choice of emojis show that he was hailing what Van Dijk had accomplished in his latest campaign.  The 27-year-old centre-back played a key part in the Reds winning the Champions League final and was an important factor in Jurgen Klopp’s side finishing only a point behind Manchester City in the Premier League. Van Dijk played 50 times across all competitions for the Reds and despite being a defender, he was involved in getting his side 10 goals. Van Dijk scored six of them and it would be no surprise if he was able to rack up more goals next season. However while it is nice to see Van Dijk flourish in the opponent’s box, it’s even nicer for the Reds that they have a composed and capable centre-back to call upon. The 27-year-old wasn’t just wonderful at the back at the Reds due to his strength and tackling ability, but was an asset as his calming presence seemed to put his teammates at ease.
