Ex-Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva has paid tribute to Roberto Firmino after he scored in Brazil’s 5-0 win against Peru in the Copa America on Saturday.

Firmino scored a cheeky no-look goal to put his nation two goals ahead in the group stage clash of the South American competition.

After the match, the Liverpool forward took to his personal Instagram account to upload an image of himself celebrating the win.

And in the replies, ex-Anfield star Lucas sent a message to the Brazilian ace.

“That’s my boy,” Lucas said, in Portuguese.

OPINION

Firmino had a rather quiet tournament for Brazil up until the point he scored that audacious goal against Peru on Saturday. The former Hoffenheim forward fired blanks in previous group stage matches against Bolivia and Venezuela, but there was nothing that the Peruvians could do to stop him and his Brazilian team-mates this weekend. Brazil will play the third-placed team in either group B or C after qualifying for the knockout stages by winning group A, so they could be pitted against old foes Argentina in results fall into place. That will be a massive test for Firmino and his international team-mates, but they are on home turf and in much better form than Lionel Messi and co. As long as Firmino doesn’t get seriously injured, Liverpool will be delighted to see him playing so much in the Copa America. If he can continue his goalscoring form into the knockout stages then he will no doubt be raring to go ahead of next season in the Premier League once he returns to Merseyside.
