Sheyi Ojo has revealed that he spoke with ex-Liverpool goalkeeper Andy Firth before he wrapped up a loan move to Rangers.

The 21-year-old’s temporary switch to Ibrox was confirmed on Tuesday and he will join up with Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard and Firth, who began his career at Liverpool and joined the Scottish giants in January after a spell at non-league side Barrow.

Ojo also sought out an opinion from Liverpool team-mate Ovie Ejaria, who spent the first half of last season on loan in Glasgow.

“I spoke to Andy Firth and Ovie Ejaria and I know a few other players who play in this league as well,” Ojo told RangersTV, as quoted by the Express.

“I think with all the advice I got it was an easy decision, there were other clubs I could have gone to but I felt this was the right decision for me.”

OPINION

It was definitely a good decision by Ojo to speak to both Firth and Ejaria because both players would have more than likely given him different perspectives on what life is like at Rangers. Firth only joined in January and understandably, as a back-up goalkeeper, he only made one senior appearance for Gerrard’s side. Ejaria was someone who has tasted what it is like to play in the first team while on loan at Ibrox. Ejaria’s loan stint north of the border was quite mixed. He started slowly, showed promise, but then his performances waned and was eventually sent back to Liverpool in January after a poor run of form. Ejaria’s experience at Rangers was a tough one, so talking to him would have been a good idea by Ojo. It didn’t seem to stop him from heading to Ibrox on loan, so maybe Ejaria felt his time in the Scottish Premiership was worthwhile in his development as a footballer, even though it didn’t go as well as what many would have hoped.
