Reading are in talks to bring Liverpool midfielder Ovie Ejaria back to the club, according to Football Insider.

The Royals took Ejaria, 21, out on loan during the second half of last season after a season-long spell at Rangers was cut short in December.

The source says that Jose Gomes’s side are keen to thrash out another agreement with the Reds, with another loan move back to Berkshire the most likely option at this stage.

OPINION

Overall, this would be a sensible move for Liverpool to make. If Ejaria stayed around at Liverpool, the only chance he would get at slotting into the midfield is if the Reds went through a catastrophic injury crisis, which means the best option for him is to leave for another season. Besides, the 21-year-old performed excellently at Reading in his short stint last season. He chipped in with a goal and two assists, while he also made – on average – 2.3 key dribbles per game in the 16 appearances he made. It is obvious that he enjoyed his time with the Championship club after a disastrous Rangers move and, after settling in well, you wouldn’t bet against him coming up with similar performances next term. As for Ejaria’s long-term Liverpool future, you really can’t see when or how he is going to force his way into the team. If he does move to Reading on loan, it would be his fourth temporary switch and it just seems as if Jurgen Klopp is biding his time, hoping that Ejaria improves enough so that he can get a decent price for him when the time is right.
