It’s been three years to the day since Sadio Mane signed for Liverpool, but it feels as if he has been at the club his whole life. The Senegalese international is a hero on Merseyside, and in many ways has come to embody the Jurgen Klopp revolution at Anfield. Snapped up for £37 million, or thereabouts, from Southampton in 2016, the forward has transformed himself from a bright spark into a roaring inferno during his time in front of the Kop, and it is no exaggeration to suggest that he has become truly world class. If there are any doubts, just look at his stats from last season. 26 goals in 50 matches only really tell half the story. Add into the mix 1.3 key passes and 2.2 shots on goal per game, not to mention a Whoscored rating of 7.31, and it’s easy to see why he is such a highly valued member of the Reds’ side. When Mo Salah hit a bit of a sticky patch last season, it was Mane who dragged Liverpool through and kept them alive and kicking in the title race. The Reds commemorated his anniversary with a tweet on Friday, but the 27-year-old’s legacy will go far beyond that.
