Rafael Camacho has told Liverpool that is willing to wind down his contract and leave on a free transfer next year, according to A Bola.

The Portuguese news outlet claims that Sporting CP are hopeful of snapping up the 19-year-old this summer after he rejected the chance to agree fresh terms at Anfield.

Camacho’s existing deal is set to expire at the end of the 2019/20 campaign and it is understood that he is ready to see out the final year of his agreement and leave on a free transfer.

OPINION

Liverpool have been put in a tough position by Camacho, but they cannot be held to ransom by one of their own players, especially as he has only made two first team appearances for the Merseyside club. A Bola reports that Liverpool want £8.9million for Camacho but amid all this contract uncertainty and his threat to leave for free, the Reds will probably be lucky to pick up that much. Michael Edwards and Jurgen Klopp should therefore consider lowering their demands for the Portuguese attacker, just so that they can at least make some money off him this summer rather than risk losing him for nothing in 12 months’ time. It’s not an ideal situation but at least there will be some cash made off of someone who clearly has no future on Merseyside. Camacho’s willingness to leave Liverpool cannot be criticised because he probably wants more first team football, but the way he is handling this isn’t great at all.
