Liverpool are reportedly keen on signing Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir this summer, and it would be a very shrewd move from the Reds were they to pull it off.

According to Turkish outlet Futbol Arena, Jurgen Klopp’s men could be lining up a move for the 6’3″ Turkish colossus [Transfermarkt] as a replacement.

The Reds are understood to be in the market for a new stopper this summer, with Simon Mignolet expected to leave the club, as reported by the Evening Standard.

The 23-year-old is also being eyed up being eyed up by Lille, according to the report, but this would be a smart move from Liverpool if they were to pull it off.

Cakir is young and still has a lot to learn, but at 23 he has already shown more than enough quality to suggest that he can have a big future in the game. He conceded just 28 goals in 25 matches last season, and recorded seven clean sheets in the process.

Obviously he isn’t going to come in and displace Alisson, but certainly he could do a fine job of playing understudy to the Brazilian, and who better for him to learn his trade from than a man who recorded a mammoth 27 shutouts in 51 games last term.

It looks increasingly likely that Mignolet will depart the club this summer, and if he does, it makes far more sense to buy a young player with potential from the continent, rather than paying over the odds for a keeper based in England.
