Liverpool move for Fekir off the table

|

Jurgen Klopp has no plans to launch a bid for Nabil Fekir a year after Liverpool had a bid accepted for the Lyon forward, according to the Mirror.

The national newspaper claim that the Reds have no interest in the 25-year-old after it was revealed a move wasn’t completed due to concerns over the French international’s injury history.

The Mirror claim that despite reports in France claiming that Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas admitted there was an ‘understanding’ to allow the player to leave, Liverpool are no longer interested.

It is suggested that with only 12 months left on his current deal, the Ligue 1 club would accept an offer of £45million for the playmaker.

OPINION

There is no surprise here with any move for Nabil Fekir always being in doubt after the extent of his knee injuries were discovered last year. Despite this fact, it is strange that the Lyon president had admitted there was an understanding that Fekir will be moved on from the club. With Liverpool’s longtime admiration of the 25-year-old, it would have led many people to jump to the conclusion that it would be the Reds that he would join. With Fekir now only requiring a £45million fee, it would be interesting to see whether or not Klopp would have been tempted to take the French international for a cut price. Despite worries surrounding his knee, Fekir enjoyed a great season for the French club, scoring 12 and assisting nine goals in 39 appearances and he would still offer Liverpool a great option. Despite all of the positives, it seems like his injury scares are too much of a deal breaker and he will not be walking out at Anfield in his career unless Lyon come to town.
