Rangers assistant manager Gary McAllister has delivered his verdict regarding the race to sign Liverpool youngster Ryan Kent.

The former Reds captain was confident that should Jurgen Klopp decide to loan the 22-year-old out again, Ibrox would be his preferred destination.

Speaking to the Daily Record, McAllister said: “It is ongoing, but the decisions at Liverpool will probably be later down the line.

“We have to be aware that Liverpool might receive bids, but you don’t know. If Ryan is to go back out on loan again, I think we’d be first in line.”

Kent enjoyed a great season for the Light Blues, quickly becoming a fan favourite after scoring six and assisting nine in his 43 appearances.

The Daily Mail previously reported that the Gers were pursuing Kent this summer and were closing in on agreeing to loan him.

OPINION

If there is anyone in a position to make an assumption, it would be McAllister. The Rangers number two will be at the heart of all the ins and outs at Ibrox over the summer with boss Steven Gerrard.  Kent quickly became a fan favourite at Ibrox last season as they finished second in the league, in a campaign where they secured two Old Firm wins against rivals Celtic. Gers fans would definitely welcome Kent back after the 22-year-old flyer won the PFA Young Player of the Year award for his efforts. This is definitely a deal worth looking out for, and if Klopp sanctions another loan, expect to see Kent unveiled at Rangers for the second season running. However while McAllister is confident that Rangers can win the race to loan Kent, there is a chance that Klopp may want him to experience a different league. After all loaning Kent out is meant to be helping him improve in order to break into the club’s first team.
