Mignolet is surely on his way out

This summer promises to be a fascinating one at Anfield.

With a wildly successful season behind them, and with a wave of optimism eclipsing anything seen by the Kop in many years at their tails, it’s hard to see where and why Jurgen Klopp would look to improve this Liverpool side.

Moves will undoubtedly be made, however, and one position that looks almost nailed on for a revamp is between the sticks.

Obviously, Alisson has nothing to worry about with regards to his status as number one, but the expectation is that Simon Mignolet will be leaving the club after six years at Anfield.

According to the Mirror, the Reds are eyeing up Southampton stopper Alex McCarthy this summer, and that must surely spell the end of the 6’3″ Belgian [Transfermarkt] on Merseyside.

At 31, he will know now that if he is to ever regain regular first team football before he retires he must look to move on, and while it will sting to leave a club of Liverpool’s calibre, it is ultimately the best thing in the long run.

From McCarthy’s point of view, a move to the Kop would surely be a good thing.

He’s already second choice with the Saints, he might as well go and play deputy at a club where he has the opportunity to be involved in winning trophies.

This deal is still in its infancy, of course, but were it to come off, it feels like a winner for everybody concerned.

As for Mignolet, it could well be goodbye.
