Liverpool see squad value rocket

There are several key measures of success in professional football.

Most obvious, and most valuable to fans, are trophies. The more silverware you have in your cabinet, the better you are as a team, that’s a given.

The thing with trophies though, is that only one team can win them at a time, and that means that a load of top quality sides go without recognition. Just ask Tottenham.

Now, as it happens, Liverpool do have a trophy to show for their incredible progression under Jurgen Klopp, and it’s the biggest one of them all. Just ask Tottenham.

But in some ways, a Champions League still doesn’t quite do justice to the transformative job that the German has done on Merseyside.

A sixth European title is a wonderful achievement, make no mistake, but it doesn’t tell you just how far this squad has come, or how they managed to push Manchester City all the way over a sustained Premier League campaign – a feat that would have been unthinkable a couple of years ago.

But looking at the rise in the value of Liverpool’s squad as a whole is a much better and clearer indicator of the Reds’ growth.

As posted by Twitter account Anything Liverpool, Transfermarkt’s analysis of Liverpool’s team shows that it is now worth nearly £1 billion.

Compare that to the £350 million or so estimated when Klopp took over, and that’s an increase 175%.

It isn’t a winner’s medal or anything you can put on a t-shirt, but it definitely shows that the Reds are on the up.
