Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher sent a cheeky message to Frank Lampard after he was appointed Chelsea manager.

Chelsea confirmed the appointment of Lampard via their official website on Thursday, and Carragher wished the 41-year-old good luck at Stamford Bridge, until he faces Liverpool.

“Good luck to Frank Lampard at Chelsea until he faces LFC,” wrote Carragher on his Instagram story.

Chelsea are set to face Liverpool in the UEFA Super Cup on August 8th, which means that match will be Lampard’s second game in charge of the Blues (excluding friendlies).

OPINION

Carragher has always been a bit of a joker, and his message to Lampard once again shows his cheeky side. The 41-year-old, who played over 500 times for the Reds, was no doubt aware that one of Lampard’s first games in charge would see him come up against Jurgen Klopp’s side. Liverpool and Chelsea’s head-to-head record from their 2018/19 campaign shows that their upcoming game is not easy to call. The Reds took all three points when they hosted Chelsea at Anfield in the league, drew 1-1 with the Blues at Stamford Bridge in the division, but memorably lost 2-1 to Chelsea when the pair clashed in the League Cup at Anfield. While the Reds did play a weakened team in that League Cup clash, with Nathaniel Clyne and Alberto Moreno both playing 90minutes, the Blues didn’t exactly field their first-choice options either with players such as Emerson starting. Therefore the Blues probably still feel like bragging about their victory in the League Cup, and the Reds should seek to ensure they have nothing to brag about when they clash in the UEFA Super Cup final.
