Darren Gough was impressed by Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson after Max Rushden listed off the Brazilian’s recent achievements.

The talkSPORT host stated that the 27-year-old Reds goalkeeper was set to be the first keeper in history to win and hold the Golden Glove awards, which is given to the goalkeeper with the most clean sheets, in the Premier League, Champions League and Copa America.

“Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson after being handed the No.1 jersey at Anfield is set to be the first keeper in history to win and hold the Golden Glove in each of the three major club and country competitions he has entered: Premier League, Champions League and Copa America,” said Rushden on talkSPORT (18:39, Wednesday July 3rd).

“He has kept nine clean sheets in his last nine games against Barcelona, Wolves, Spurs, Honduras, Bolivia, Venezuela, Peru, Paraguay and Argentina last night, well done Alisson.”

Gough responded to Alisson’s accolades being listed off by delivering a four-word verdict on him to praise him for his recent success.

“It’s pretty good that,” responded Gough.

The former English cricketer then brought up a past talkSPORT poll that was conducted asking for people to choose between Alisson and Manchester City keeper Ederson, and Gough pointed out how it wasn’t the Reds keeper that won.

“We did a poll last year and we asked who you preferred Alisson or Ederson and most people still went for Ederson didn’t they,” said Gough.

OPINION

Is it any surprise Gough is impressed by Alisson? As who wouldn’t be. The 27-year-old had a fantastic debut season at the Reds in his 2018/19 campaign after joining from AS Roma as he kept 27 clean sheets and only conceded 34 goals in the 51 appearances he made across all competitions. Alisson may have made three errors leading to goals in his Premier League outings, but they were small blips in what was in most respects a dream season. Also aside from racking up clean sheets, Alisson’s tremendous ability with the ball at his feet helped make Jurgen Klopp’s side a more formidable force. The Brazilian made 1,076 passes in his league outings and averaged 28.32 passes per game, which is unusually high for a keeper (Source: Premier League). While Alisson’s 2018/19 season was a success, and could get even better if Brazil win the Copa America, he will no doubt be aiming to somehow do even better in his upcoming campaign.
