Jurgen Klopp will hand a first team opportunity to young full-back Yasser Larouci against Tranmere Rovers on Thursday evening, according to the Echo.

The Liverpool manager is expected to run the rule over a number of academy talents in preseason, and it is understood that Larouci, who has yet to make a senior appearance for the Reds, is among them.

The French youth international is a regular for the Kop’s youth set up, and has been described as “lightning quick” by U18s manager Barry Lewtas.

OPINION

This will be a brilliant step in the fledgling career of Larouci. The young Frenchman clearly has talent in abundance, and with Alberto Moreno leaving Merseyside at the beginning of the month, he has every opportunity to stake a claim for that deputy spit in behind Andy Robertson. It may seem like a big ask, but the youngster is highly though of by manager Barry Lewtas, and Jurgen Klopp has shown on more than one occasion before that he is more than willing to trust in youth if he believes a player is good enough to warrant a chance with the first team. Larouci should now get that opening, and all the signs are that if he plays his cards right, he could easily make good on it as well. That would certainly make things easier for Klopp going into the new season as well, and would alleviate the need for him to spend big on a covering left-back.
