Liverpool are “well positioned” to sign free agent Bilel Hassaini this summer after Paris Saint-Germain’s interest in the 18-year-old attacker cooled, according to Foot Mercato.

The French news outlet claims that Arsenal are also interested in the teenager, who is currently without a club after he rejected the chance to sign a new deal with Nancy and is awaiting an offer from the Gunners.

It is understood that Saint-Etienne have also been keen on Hassaini, but Liverpool have now joined the race and could lure the France youth international to Anfield before the summer transfer window closes.

OPINION

Hassaini failed to make a single senior appearance during his time at Nancy but it is clear from the clubs that are interested in him that the 18-year-old is very highly-rated. Hassaini impressed while rising through the ranks at Nancy and managed to earn caps for France at both Under-16 and Under-17 level. Liverpool have shown a willingness to add to their youth teams this summer by signing Dutch youngster Sepp van den Berg and there have also been widespread reports that Fulham wonderkid Harvey Elliott is also on his way to Anfield. Could Hassaini be joining van den Berg and Elliott? It remains to be seen at the moment because Arsenal appear to have held an interest in the 18-year-old for a longer time while he could also opt to stay in France amid interest from Saint-Etienne. Liverpool might as well launch an offer for Hassaini though as he is a free agent. In a few years’ time, they might regret not having a better go at signing him if he lives up to his potential.
