talkSPORT presenters Max Rushden and Darren Gough are split over who is more important out of Liverpool’s starting full backs Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson.

The Reds currently have two of the finest full backs in world football plying their trade at Anfield, and Rushden feels the Scot is the more crucial of the two, whereas Gough is an Alexander-Arnold man.

It’s tough to separate the duo, and the talkSPORT double act have proved that fact: “Robertson – he’s a powerhouse, isn’t he?,” Rushden told talkSPORT [18/07; 16:36].

“Good player,” Gough replied. “He’s just up and down [the left flank], it’s extraordinary,” Rushden continued. “But Trent’s delivery… They are blessed with glorious full backs.”

OPINION

It goes without saying that Alexander-Arnold and Robertson are among the finest full backs in world football, if not the two very best at their respective positions. They have proved in both the Premier League and Champions League that they are a match for any winger in the world – they’re simply sensational. As mentioned, the difficulty in splitting the two has been demonstrated here by the talkSPORT duo each picking a different one. At the moment, in terms of the depth behind them at their position, you would have to say that Robertson is more vital. Alberto Moreno’s departure on a free has left the Scotland captain as the only senior left back at the club. Alexander-Arnold, meanwhile, is currently backed up by Joe Gomez and Nathaniel Clyne, while Ki-Jana Hoever and James Milner can operate at the position as well – although it must be said that Milner has filled in at left back in the past as well. We’re left to split hairs with these two, though.
