Liverpool have joined Leeds United and Stoke City in the race to sign young Reims right-back Enzo Valentim, according to Football Insider.

The reliable news outlet claims that Liverpool are continuing their recruitment drive of highly-rated youngsters who can push for a spot in the first-team in the future and have turned their attention to 18-year-old Valentim.

It is understood that the European champions are keeping close tabs on the French teenager, which is worrying for Leeds and Stoke as they fear they cannot compete with the financial muscle of the Merseyside giants.

OPINION

Valentim has been playing for Reims’ second-team in France after joining the Ligue 1 club from Tours last summer so unless his current club can offer him more first-team opportunities, there’s a good chance that a switch across the Channel is in order for the teenage ace. Valentim is a highly-rated young right-back and Liverpool have already shown a willingness to add young players with a lot of potential this summer with deals for Harvey Elliott, 16, and Sepp van den Berg, 17. Leeds and Stoke would be able to offer Valentim a clearer route to their first-team than Liverpool would so for all their worries about the Reds’ financial might, a move to the Championship is perhaps the better option for the French right-back. Leeds and Stoke are both good Championship sides that offer chances to young players. Liverpool have Trent Alexander-Arnold locked into that right-back spot for years to come. Valentim might not be interested in a move to Anfield.
