AC Milan are set to reignite their interest in Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren this summer, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.

The Italian outlet claim that the Croatian international’s agent, Bjorn Bezemer is set to travel to Milan on Wednesday and potentially meet with San Siro officials over a potential deal.

TuttoMercatoWeb report that the Serie A giants are to “reactivate” with contacts surrounding Lovren after failing with moves for two separate targets.

Gazzetta Dello Sport journalist Nicola Schira reported on his personal Twitter account that Milan were readying a four-year-deal for the 30-year-old worth up to £10.8million.

OPINION

AC Milan are evidently scrambling to try and complete a deal for another defender this summer, and their desperation for reinforcements could be highlighted by the fact they could be set to reignite their interest in Lovren. The 30-year-old has enjoyed a good couple of seasons under Jurgen Klopp but has fallen down the pecking order somewhat – with Joel Matip and Virgil Van Dijk ahead of him in the race to start. Lovren averaged 3.9 clearances per game last season, with Van Dijk clearly outscoring him with an average of 5.2. The Croatian also averaged 1.2 tackles, a stat which was bettered by Matip, who averaged 1.8 [Source: WhoScored]. Lovren may possess impressive averages in certain areas, but the truth is that a different Reds’ defender betters him in that area. At 30-years-old it is unlikely that Lovren will want to sit on the bench at Anfield, and with Joe Gomez also fighting for a spot, an exit to the San Siro might be a better option for the former Southampton enforcer.
