After their sixth Champions League triumph, many Liverpool fans would have expected Jurgen Klopp to push forward this summer – especially in the transfer window.

There have been countless rumours linking the Reds with big money moves for Barcelona duo Ousmane Dembele and Phillipe Coutinho, but it appears Klopp is happy with his squad at Anfield at this moment in time.

Instead, Liverpool were reported by the Mirror journalist David Maddock to be targeting more youthful signings this summer, with their only possible senior signing a winger.

This was after their first move in the market was to sign 17-year-old defender Sepp van den Berg from PEC Zwolle. The suggestion of a youth influx in Merseyside could be true after all, after it was reported on Friday that Klopp was interested in Fulham youngster Harvey Elliot.

At only 16-years-old, Elliot became the youngest ever player in the Premier League after a substitute appearance against Wolves. The England youth international has reportedly refused a new deal with the Londoners which has raised lots of interest – with Klopp one of those interested parties.

This potential second signing would all but confirm Maddock’s prediction that the Reds are set to adopt a different strategy this time around. The signing of Elliot would be a real signal of intent, with Barcelona and Real Madrid also in the hunt for his signature.

The fact that Liverpool are now European Champions once again, a move to Anfield will certainly attract some of the world’s brightest young talents, with Elliot potentially being the second through the door in the space of weeks.

With the recent departures of Rafael Camacho and Bobby Adekanye, this would be a great way to plaster over the holes left behind – with Liverpool’s academy surely set to look fierce next season.
