Liverpool have joined Barcelona and Bayern Munich in the pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz, according to Bild.

The German outlet claim that Leverkusen do not want to sell the 20-year-old, who is under contract until 2022 at the BayArena.

Bild report that the Bundesliga side values their brightest talent massively, and would not consider selling him for anything below £89.8million.

Havertz went through the youth ranks at Leverkusen, starting at under-17’s level, and recently made his senior German international debut in 2018, going onto earn three caps.

The 20-year-old enjoyed his best season yet, with Leverkusen boss Rudi Voller calling him the greatest German talent produced in attacking midfield in the last decade.

OPINION

This would be an inspired move from both Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool, with Havertz being one of the brightest talents in world football right now. The 20-year-old was the standout performer for Leverkusen last season, scoring 17 goals and assisting a further three from playing off the shoulder of the striker. Havertz would bring great creativity behind Liverpool’s front-three and they must go all out to secure his signature either now or in the future. Havertz held an impressive WhoScored rating of 7.25, and averaged 2.6 shots per game [WhoScored], showing his eagerness to find space and pull the trigger in and around the box last season. An area Klopp would most likely want the youngster to improve on is his ability to create goals after the German only averaged a single key pass per game for Leverkusen [WhoScored]. However, given that he’d cost at least £89.8million, the chances of this deal happening are very silm.
