Jamie Carragher is baffled by Gary Neville’s prediction that Manchester United will win the Premier League title again before Liverpool manage to win their first.

Liverpool finished last season 33 points ahead of Man United as they ended runners-up to Manchester City, but that has not stopped Neville from telling SkyBet, as shown via their official Twitter account, that he reckons his old club stand more of a chance of reaching the top of English football before the reigning European champions.

Ex-Anfield star Carragher clearly believes that it is too early to be making such predictions.

“After one game,” the former defender said with a head-exploding emoji on his personal Twitter account on Wednesday evening.

OPINION

Liverpool are in much better shape than Man United are now and it could be years – even decades – before the Red Devils are able to get back to the status they were at when Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge at Old Trafford. Liverpool are the reigning European champions, can attract better players than Man United, better managers and already have a squad that is far superior to their North-West rivals. Manchester City are the best team in England right now, there’s no denying that after the way they won the title last term. However Liverpool were so incredibly close to winning it that you have to feel as though their chance will come in the next few seasons – if not this one. The Merseyside giants just need to find a way to beat Manchester City because they can clean up against most other teams in the league. Beating the Citizens is easier said than done but if there’s a man to work out how to do it, it’s Klopp.
