Steven Gerrard is the only man who could replace Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager, according to Jerzy Dudek.

The former Kop captain spent some time working with with the Reds’ youth system before taking the senior job at Rangers, and Dudek believes that he is being touted as a long term replacement for the grinning German.

Writing in Polish outlet Przeglad Sportowy, Dudek said: “Steven also has the opportunity to use the wisdom of Jurgen Klopp.

“When I was in Liverpool recently, it was no secret that Steven is the man and indeed, only candidate for replacing Klopp when he decides his time at Anfield is over.

“Everyone knows that sooner or later the great captain will return.”

OPINION

It will take somebody very special to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, and Gerrard would be the ideal man to do so, provided he can make a go of things. His first season at Rangers was certainly enough to suggest that he has the potential to really kick on and become a top tier manager. Admittedly, his side fell away a little after the winter break, but he still managed a points per game average of 1.99 last term, as per Transfermarkt. Most importantly, however, it looks as if Rangers are steadily getting better under Gerrard. He has bought well this summer, and the Gers have made a confident start to the new campaign. Make no mistake, the step up to the Anfield dugout would be a big one, but Gerrard would have the fans’ backing, and on the basis of what he has done so far, he might just have the talent too.
