Liverpool teenager Bobby Duncan has broken his silence on Twitter amid a social media storm surrounding a statement by his agent Saif Rubie on Wednesday.

Rubie posted a long statement via his personal Twitter account which accused Liverpool of “mentally bullying” 18-year-old Duncan and refusing to allow him to leave so he can pursue first-team football elsewhere.

Rubie’s account has since disappeared from Twitter after damning tweets he posted in the past were brought to attention by Liverpool fans.

And it would seem as though Duncan is in the mood to post stuff on his account but also delete it.

The young striker’s message said: “I just want to play football.”

The tweet was deleted instantly after being posted but luckily, Live4Liverpool were able to grab a screenshot.

OPINION

Duncan may just want to play football, but having his agent release that statement was not the right way to go about it. Duncan should make his first priority right now to sack Rubie. He clearly does not have Duncan’s best interests at heart and would rather use personal details about the vulnerable teenager, who he says is suffering with mental health issues, to engineer a move away from Anfield. Rubie seems like someone who young English footballers will want to avoid in the future and you have to feel slightly sympathetic towards Duncan because he has clearly had his head turned by someone who really should not be allowed to work with young players. Duncan should try to keep off Twitter now. It will do no good for his mental health to keep going online and viewing that some people are saying about him. You can’t blame him for wanting to play first-team football but he needs to realise that what has happened in the last 24 hours is not the right way to go about it.
